Catalans Dragons fought back to earn victory and ensure a miserable start for Francis Cummins as interim manager of bottom-of-the-table Widnes Vikings.

Cummins, who replaced the sacked Denis Betts last month, saw his side make a flying start with Jay Chapelhow touching down Aaron Heremaia's kick and Rhys Hanbury diving in for a 10-0 lead.

Tries by Tony Gigot and Brayden Wiliame helped Dragons lead 12-10 at the break.

And further scores by Remi Casty, Kenny Edwards and Fouad Yaha sealed victory.

Widnes were on course for just their fourth league win in 16 games when they led 10-0 and also drew level at 12-12 after the break thanks to Patrick Ah Van's kick.

But the French side stepped up the tempo thereafter to claim a sixth league win in 16 games.

Josh Drinkwater slotted his third goal to put them ahead before Casty and Edwards bundled over from close range to help stretch the lead to 24-12.

Drinkwater once again converted, and then added another two points after Yaha finished off his own good work with the Catalans' fifth try.
