Tries: Donaldson, Tickle, Quinlan, Salter Goals: Atkin, Tickle 4

Hull KR held off a spirited fightback to beat lowly Widnes Vikings.

The visitors led at the break thanks to James Donaldson's try, with a Krisnan Inu goal all the hosts had to show for their efforts.

Danny Tickle's try extended Hull KR's lead before Olly Ashall and Danny Craven crossed to level.

Scores from Adam Quinlan and Liam Salter gave the visitors the win despite Owen Buckley's two tries for Widnes.

Defeat for the Vikings means Francis Cummins is still looking for his first win since taking over until the end of the season in May.

Buckley's second try with less than two minutes to go set up a nervy finish in hot conditions but they could not force a final opportunity.

Hull KR have now picked up seven points in their last four games and two more wins could yet see them finish in the top eight at the end of the regular season.

Widnes, who have won just three games all season, face a trip to Leeds on Friday while the Robins host Warrington on the same night.

Widnes interim coach Francis Cummins:

"Of course I'd like to bring players in but we are at the back of the queue. We have to wait for the clubs at the top to do their business and hope that we can maybe do something afterwards.

"We are working hard on getting troops in and it's hard.

"It's not about desire, effort or ability. We got to a good place in the game but it's two steps forward and one step back. Hull KR have been going really well recently and we knew it would be tough.

"We had our chances and we steadied down a bit in the second half but it's unfortunate for us that we did some good things but we invent ways of bringing ourselves down.

Hull KR coach Tim Sheens:

"I was relieved at the final whistle.

"It was a tough game and we expected it. They are a better team than the table suggests. They have got some dangerous players. It was a war of attrition and it's good to be on the right side of it.

"We have got three wins in a row and some momentum is being formed. We have a long week to get ready and we will patch up and see where we are at in a few games' time as we have a few injuries."
