Danny McGuire's late try handed Hull KR a narrow 10-6 win over Wakefield at a muddy Mobile Rocket Stadium.

Flowing rugby was almost impossible because of wet and windy conditions.

Craig Hall twice kicked penalties to cancel out efforts from Danny Brough as the sides were level at 4-4 with just over 10 minutes left.

Brough's third penalty put Trinity back in front but McGuire went over in the corner six minutes from time for the game's only try to win it for Rovers.

The crucial score came when Josh Drinkwater's kick to the corner was tipped back by Jimmy Keinhorst and McGuire, who had earlier been sin-binned for dissent, was on hand to collect and touch down.

Hall added the conversion against the wind from the touchline as Hull KR, who had lost their two previous games, claimed their third win of the season to climb to sixth in the Super League table.

Wakefield, who came into the game on the back of successive wins over Catalans Dragons and Leeds, thought they had scored the game's opening try just before Brough gave them the lead for the third time.

However, although Tom Johnstone thought he had touched down in the corner after collecting Jacob Miller's kick, the touch judge ruled he had been taken out of play by Hall's covering tackle.

Wakefield coach Chris Chester:

"There was a knock-on in the air for their try and Tom scored a perfectly good try. We've slowed it down frame by frame and he got the ball down.

"I've always been an advocate of having a video referee at every game. That's twice we've had this ref and he seems to let everything go.

"But I don't want to take anything away from Hull KR, they played well and good on them.

"There was nothing between the two teams. It was a poor game to be honest and the conditions played a massive part."

Hull KR coach Tim Sheens:

"No coach could fail to be happy with the effort today.

"We were already down in numbers and down in size so to stay with them, particularly in the second half, and come up with a winning try, it's a great result.

"The conditions were an equaliser. Keeping Bill Tupou quiet was the key, although we struggled to handle their forwards."
