Albert Kelly scored a try in Hull FC's second-half comeback against London Broncos

Hull FC held off a late London Broncos surge to move back into the top half of the Super League table.

The hosts had led 14-10 and looked on course for their fourth win in eight games since their return to the top flight.

Hull added 18 points without reply, with Albert Kelly among their second-half try-scorers.

Jordan Abdull and Rhys Williams got London to within four points, but the Broncos could not grab a last-gasp win.

They had the chance to complete a stunning comeback when they were awarded a penalty near Hull's line in the final minute, but the visitors' defence held firm to register a fourth win in five games.

The margin of victory had looked like being more convincing when Carlos Tuimavave, Jordan Thompson, Kelly and Bureta Faraimo all crossed early in the second period.

That quartet of tries added to Josh Griffin's first-half double, although they were not enough for a half-time advantage as the Broncos continued the momentum from victory in their previous outing at Leeds to lead at the halfway point.

Elliot Kear pounced on a loose ball to quickly reply to Griffin's opener and hooker Eloi Pelissier went over from dummy half to help London go in front.

But Australian half-back Kelly played a key role in the visitors' revival, setting up Tuimavave for the first points of the second half and then running from inside his own half for the fifth of his side's six tries.

London Broncos head coach Danny Ward:

"It could have gone either way, that's sport, but over the 80 minutes we probably didn't quite deserve it - we were a little bit soft - and didn't do enough.

"We showed resilience, perseverance and character to still be in with a chance at the death, but ultimately we didn't come out with energy after half-time and that early score for them didn't help either.

"There's a feeling of this being a missed opportunity, especially given how close we did come in the end."

Hull FC head coach Lee Radford:

"We got challenged like we knew we would do, and it's pleasing to come out the other end with a win.

"They will come at you for 80 minutes, and you can't be impatient because they'll hurt you, and neither can you try to cheat them out of points, because they'll just keep coming at you.

"The surroundings here are very different to what we're used to, and it'll certainly be all-change against Warrington next week, where we'll be presented with a very different challenge."
