Super League: Hull FC 6-37 Catalans Dragons

Sam Tomkins kicked six goals for the Dragons at the KCom Stadium

Catalans Dragons bounced back from Sunday's hammering at Super League leaders St Helens as they ran in six tries to thrash third-placed Hull.

After an early Sam Tomkins penalty, Hull then led with a converted try from Mickey Paea.

But Dragons responded through Fouad Yaha, Tony Gigot and Brayden Wiliame.

Arthur Romano, Matt Whitley, Samisoni Langi added three further tries, with Tomkins slotting three kicks before a Gigot drop goal sealed the win.

Catalans, beaten 50-14 by Saints just five days before, responded superbly as they made light of being without concussion victims David Mead, Kenny Edwards and Mickael Simon, as well as their early season casualties.

Tomkins was free to play, having avoided suspension after initially being charged with a grade A offence of dangerous contact for his tackle on St Helens stand-off Jack Welsby last Sunday.

But Lee Radford's injury-depleted Hull were without 17 players, including the influential half-back pairing of Marc Sneyd and Albert Kelly.

In an error-strewn performance, the Black and Whites had little to show for their efforts other than the try by Paea.

That sole score was converted by Jake Connor, who missed the chance to show what he could do in Sneyd's absence and let his frustration show with a yellow card for dissent towards the end of the first half.

Hull boss Lee Radford:

"That's the worst of Jake Connor unfortunately. When you are the driver of the bus you've got a bit of responsibility. It's the 12 blokes on the field that it really hurts.

"Painful was the word I would use for that performance. It was unbelievably disappointing. The energy levels in the second half were poor.

"If I knew why I would definitely have fixed it at half-time. Probably the outcome of the game was deserved. That's the third time in my opinion we've thrown one of those performances in this season."

Catalans coach Steve McNamara:

"A fantastic performance. We've heard lots and lots about Hull's injuries this week. But we had nine players out ourselves. We were down to our last 17 players.

"On the back of a horrible performance against Saints it was a great response, a fantastic result for us. People talk about the away form and we want to improve that.

"Teams have to come to France once, possibly twice, and we have 15 trips across here and the Challenge Cup as well. We have put ourselves in a reasonable position now."
