David Mead scored two tries on his return from injury to help Catalans Dragons up to fourth in Super League with victory against Wakefield.

Israel Folau and Matt Whitley scored two tries in four minutes before the break to put Catalans 12-8 up after Bill Tupou's opening score for Trinity.

Mead's double and further scores from Sam Kasiano, Sam Tomkins and Julian Bousquet ensured victory for Catalans.

Defeat leaves Wakefield winless since the competition's resumption in August.

The Yorkshire club's eight-match losing run in the league, dating back to before the coronavirus-enforced break, sees Trinity slip back to the bottom of the table on points difference.

Chris Chester's Wakefield made a promising start against the French club, with a neatly placed kick behind from Jacob Miller setting up Tupou for the game's first points.

Tony Gigot added the extras then kicked a 34th-minute penalty to make it an eight-point lead, and at the other end the hosts were being well contained.

Soon after, however, Whitley muscled over for their first try and a touchdown from Folau in the final moments of the first half gave Catalans the lead for the first time.

Mead, who scored a hat-trick against Wakefield in the Challenge Cup in his last appearance before being injured six weeks ago, grabbed the first of two second-half tries soon after the restart.

The full-back completed victory for Steve McNamara's side with the last of seven unanswered tries in the 64th minute.
