Catalans Dragons eased their way through to the Challenge Cup quarter-finals as they overcame Wakefield Trinity 26-6 in St Helens.

England international Sam Tomkins crossed to send Catalans ahead before Mason Lino replied for Wakefield.

Josh Drinkwater powered over after the break while Tom Davies put Catalans 14 points ahead on the hour mark.

Gil Dudson kept up the Dragons' momentum as the 2018 champions saw out victory to progress to the last eight.

Prior to the match, Catalans gave up home advantage for the fixture, which took place as a double-header at the TW Stadium after St Helens' win against holders Leeds Rhinos.

The draw for the quarter-finals took place at half-time, with Catalans going on to face the winner of Swinton v Warrington, which takes place on Sunday.

Wakefield's task was made harder when talisman Tom Johnstone, who had come into the game with a head knock but was deemed fit to play, was brought off as a precaution in the second half.

Max Jowitt was also forced off for Wakefield as he tried to hold up Dudson when he touched down for the 2018 winners.
