Rhyse Martin: Leeds Rhinos back-rower handed extended ban after 'frivolous' appeal

Leeds Rhinos will be without back-rower Rhyse Martin for Friday's Super League play-off eliminator against Catalans Dragons, after he failed in an appeal against the ban at a hearing.
The Papua New Guinea international, 29, was charged with a Grade A high tackle offence for a challenge on Castleford's Alex Mellor on Saturday.
Martin had the ban extended by a game on the basis of a "frivolous" appeal.
He would be available for the Grand Final should Rhinos make it.
However, he would miss the semi-final if they can get past Steve McNamara's Dragons side in Perpignan.
No punishment was awarded at the time of the incident during the game, but it was picked up later by the match review panel.
Martin has been a regular for Leeds in 2022, scoring 10 tries and kicking 85 goals in his 25 appearances.
The Rhinos have also announced that team manager Jason Davidson will end his 17-year association with the club at the end of the season.
Davidson has worked alongside every Rhinos coach since 2006, helping the club to win seven Grand Finals, a hat-trick of Challenge Cup titles and the World Club Challenge and League Leaders' Shield twice each.
