Gareth Widdop has left Castleford Tigers "by mutual consent".

The 34-year-old has departed after one season at the Mend-a-Hose Jungle, playing 21 times for the club this summer after joining from Warrington Wolves.

The former Melbourne Storm and St George Illawarra half-back scored one try for the Tigers and kicked 37 goals.

Cas's director of rugby and operations Danny Wilson indicated that the club had foreseen Widdop's departure.

He said that explained their move to bring in Luke Hooley and Rowan Milnes for the 2024 season.

"I would like to thank Gaz for his contribution to the club across his time here and wish him well for the future.

"We as a club had conversations at the back end of the season and foresaw the departure coming. We brought in Luke and Rowan to fill that void for 2024 and I think their arrivals will do just that."
