Rachael Woosey impressed enough at club level to get an England opportunity at the end of 2021

Outside-back Rachael Woosey has re-joined Women's Super League side St Helens following a spell with Premier 15s rugby union club Sale Sharks.

The 26-year-old spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons with Saints after switching from union with Loughborough Lightning.

Woosey won Super League and Challenge Cup honours in her first spell with her hometown club.

"I really enjoyed my time when I was here originally. Unbelievable memories of the club so far," Woosey said.

"The girls that we were with, and still remain now, are an incredible group that is enjoyable to be around and I do really want to get back into that environment and be back playing alongside them."

Saints retained the Challenge Cup in 2023's historic first Wembley final, under head coach Matty Smith, but were edged out in the semi-finals of the play-offs with York beating Leeds to win the Grand Final.

"Rachael has played for us before so knows what it's like to play in a Saints shirt, but I am looking forward to coaching her this season," said Smith.

"She can play a really important role for us, and her experience will also help contribute massively to our group."
