Super League: Castleford 8-50 Huddersfield - Tigers suffer fourth straight loss to nine-try Giants

Adam Swift gets the ball rolling as Huddersfield secured a fifth successive win over Cas

Huddersfield claimed the derby spoils at The Jungle to hand winless Castleford a fourth straight defeat.

Adam Swift, Adam Clune, Sam Halsall and Sam Hewitt all crossed, with Innes Senior responding as Giants took a 24-4 half-time lead.

Senior's second try against his former side gave Cas slim hope, but Leroy Cudjoe's score sparked a collapse.

Swift, Halsall and Cudjoe all claimed second tries, and Kevin Naiqama crossed as Giants scored four late tries.

A fifth straight derby win over their West Yorkshire rivals - and eighth in their last nine meetings, lifts Huddersfield to eighth, while Castleford slip below London Broncos to bottom spot on points difference.

Injury-hit Cas almost drew first blood when Sylvester Namo knocked-on in front of the posts seeking a debut try but, within minutes, they fell behind following an error which would sum up the Tigers' first-half display.

A Senior knock-on gifted the Giants possession 20 metres from the Cas line, and they put the ball through hands before Esan Marsters sent Swift in at the corner.

Clune then dabbed a kick over the top of the Tigers and touched down to extend the lead, but Senior barged his way over in reply.

However, Halsall went over in the corner and then extinguished home hopes with the final play of the half as Cas were punished again for an error-strewn opening.

This time Luke Hooley dropped a high kick, allowing Hugo Salabio to pick up and feed Hewitt for a simple finish.

Senior chipped away at the daunting deficit with his second of the match, dancing inside to ground, but Cudjoe powered over for the Giants' fifth try.

Worst was to come for the hosts who shipped four tries in the last nine minutes.

Swift raced away to double his try tally, Jake Connor fed Halsall to finish a flowing move and Cudjoe also claimed his second.

Tui Lolohea then turned down a last-gasp score to unselfishly allow Naiqama to mark his 250th career appearance with a try and take Giants to a half-century of points.

Castleford Tigers head coach Craig Lingard told BBC Radio Leeds:

"It hurts massively and I think it's got to hurt the players.

"That's not a performance I want to be associated with. It doesn't represent us as a club and the coaching staff and as a playing group and how we've trained all season.

"That just wasn't good enough. We've got to own it, but it hurts.

"I've said before we've got to base ourselves this season on being a team that's effort-based, that's going to out-work other teams, be closer and more together than other teams, but Huddersfield completely blew us off the park with effort-based stuff."

Huddersfield Giants head coach Ian Watson told BBC Radio Leeds:

"We knew at the start of the year, we were going to build and try to get better every single week. That's what we are focusing on. "We knew Castleford were going to come out after us and put pressure on, try to take the challenge to us and fatigue us. I thought we stayed with it. We scored then and I think that always breaks a team. "Castleford had the momentum and against Wigan that killed us, but today we've shown a bit more steel. "I think our start got Castleford, similar to how Wigan got us, but they are a good group. They're tough to beat."
