Brisbane hooker Smoothy to join Wakefield for 2026

Tyson Smoothy has played in the NRL for Brisbane Broncos and Melbourne Storm

Wakefield Trinity have signed Australian hooker Tyson Smoothy for the 2026 season.

Smoothy will join Wakefield on a three-year contract from NRL side Brisbane Broncos.

The 25-year-old has played 31 times for the Broncos, including in their Grand Final defeat to Penrith Panthers in 2023.

"Managing to get Tyson's signature is a huge coup for Wakefield Trinity," recruitment manager Ste Mills told the Super League club's website.

"Signing a regular NRL player who's coming into his prime shows you where the club is heading and how everyone is buying into a common goal."

Wakefield are seventh on their Super League return with a win and a loss and they play St Helens on Saturday (14:30 GMT).
