St Helens forward Jake Wingfield will miss most of the rest of the season because of an ankle injury.

The 24-year-old was hurt during Friday evening's Super League win against Wakefield Trinity and will have surgery in the next few days.

Wingfield was helped off the field early in the second half having earlier replaced Curtis Sironen, who had failed a head injury assessment [HIA].

After 17 senior appearances for Saints this season, Wingfield could be out for between seven and nine weeks,, external leading into the end of the campaign.

St Helens are currently fourth in the Super League table with six regular-season games to go.
