That's a lovely kick from Jonny Lomax because he's landed it on the point of the ball and it bounces backwards for Batchelor and they will have practised that in training.

It's clever play from Lomax but the space was there for him to place that kick.

    The try stands!

And it's a thing of beauty.

Jonny Lomax threads a dangerous kick through for Joe Batchelor to meet.

He thinks quick and pads a pass across for Konrad Hurrell to finish.

The conversion from Jon Bennison is good. Saints lead for the first time.

    St Helens 0-4 Warrington

Head coach Sam Burgess has Warrington flying in the early weeks of the Super League season.

Taking another step in the Challenge Cup will undoubtably lift confidence even further.

Adding to reasons to feel good today is the Wires’ run of wins against St Helens in the cup. They have won their past two meets in the competition, which included winning the 2019 final at Wembley and getting past Saints at the quarter-final stage in 2020.

They are dominating the early exchanges today, but a penalty in the middle of pitch has Saints on the attack.

Warrington are looking menacing with every set.

This time they attack down the left, and Lachlan Fitzgibbon tries to thread a kick through for Matty Ashton.

    The ball, however, runs dead.

Look at the depth of the Warrington attack. They've exposed the Saints defence.

It's a deserved advantage. Other than two earlier errors, they've looked really positive going forward, worked in pairs, they've tipped the ball on when they've needed it and got that ruck speed so they can play on the front foot.

  14. try

    Josh Thewlis

Warrington make their early pressure count and break the deadlock.

The Wire have a huge overlap on the right, with bodies lining up for a pass from Matt Dufty.

The cut-out ball finds Josh Thewlis, and he strolls over out wide.

He then steps up for the conversion, but fails to add the extras.

It's a brilliant play by Waqa Blake.

He was beaten once but didn't give up. But great creativity and they've got numbers on the right-hand side but it's brilliant play by that man.

The home side's attack is only undone by a forward pass from Curtis Sironen.

    St Helens 0-0 Warrington

St Helens have their first real sight of the try line.

They try play it on the short side, but are crowded out.

Daryl Clark tries to shift things back infield, but the play on the last tackle is scrappy and the chance is gone.

Warrington have failed to make the most of that penalty.

Jordy Crowther knocks on as he tries to play the ball and Saints have possession just inside their half.

    A big set to follow.
