Tom Wood extends Northampton Saints contract to 2014

Northampton Saints flanker Tom Wood has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at Franklin's Gardens until the summer of 2014.

The 24-year-old, who won the Six Nations with England earlier this year, has featured 22 times in his debut season for Saints.

"I've loved every minute, I always knew the coaching system was good," he told BBC Look East.

"The way it's taken off for me this season has been beyond my imagination."

The Worcester Warriors academy product has had a remarkable season since switching from Sixways, chalking up five England caps and helping Saints on their way to the Heineken Cup final.

But Wood has not featured since mid-April after cracking a bone in his leg, and remains a doubt for the Millennium Stadium clash with Leinster on 21 May.

"I'm on crutches, I've got a couple more days of non-weight bearing and then hopefully I'll be able to get moving around," he added.

"I'm going to have a scan later on in the week and hopefully that's going to give good news and I can get running again.

"Initially they said six to eight weeks, which was pretty devastating news, but I'm hoping I can beat that.

"I've been throwing everything at it in terms of nutrition and hopefully I'm above average in terms of healing."
