Harlequins have extended the contracts of hooker Joe Gray and second rower Charlie Matthews.

Gray made 27 appearances for the side last season and has signed a deal to keep him at the club until the end of the 2013-14 season.

The 23-year-old was named in the England Saxons squad for the recent Churchill Cup campaign, external.

Matthews, 20, is a member of the Quins academy and made his first-team debut against London Irish this month.

Quins director of rugby Conor O'Shea said: "We believe Joe has the ability to get better and better, and we are looking forward to him achieving his goals with us over the coming years."

Academy manager Tony Diprose added: "Charlie has worked really hard over the last few seasons and he is now gaining the rewards.

"He had an excellent Junior World Cup in the summer and an impressive recent Premiership debut. I look forward to him making many more appearances in the Quins shirt."
