Exeter Chiefs have agreed a deal with Cornish Pirates to sign 33-year-old prop Alan Paver on loan.

The veteran forward is in his 10th year at the Championship club.

The Chiefs have Craig Mitchell away at the World Cup, Chris Budgen in the win over Wasps, external.

John Andress is returning to training after a facial injury but coach Rob Baxter is short on options.

Paver is joining the club on a week-to-week basis and has never played Premiership rugby before.

"Because of our excellent relationship with Exeter Chiefs, when Rob Baxter approached us asking if Alan Paver could be loaned to the Chiefs on a temporary basis, we were happy to be able to help out," said Pirates chief executive Rod Coward.

"I know Paves will give of his very best and I'm confident that he will do the Pirates proud."

Meanwhile, Baxter says Andress just needs the go-ahead from the club's medical staff to be ready to play.

"He's back to fitness now, his injury is one which isn't going to affect a prop," he said.

"It's nothing kind of structural so he'll be up and running as soon as he's good to go."
