Cornish Pirates sign Canada full-back Matt Evans

Evans has played in the Celtic League for Newport-Gwent Dragons

Cornish Pirates have signed Canada international full-back Matt Evans as cover for the injured Wes Davies.

Salisbury-born Evans, 23, played in Canada's matches against Japan and New Zealand at the World Cup and will join up with his new team-mates in November.

Evans played four matches for Newport-Gwent Dragons last season.

"I can confirm that he comes highly recommended and we have been watching his progress for some time," said Pirates chief executive Rod Coward.

Evans has made 16 appearances for Canada and has scored eight tries.
