Bristol have signed Tonga international back William Helu.

The 25-year-old featured once for his country in this year's World Cup in their 25-20 defeat by Canada, external in Pool A.

Helu, who can play at centre or wing, will join up with the Championship leaders in November.

"I saw him play in the World Cup and he has the attributes I look for in a player. He's very versatile and quick," head coach Liam Middleton told BBC Radio Bristol.

"He strengthens our squad and brings in a bit more quality.

"He's been playing in Europe for a couple of years and we're very pleased to have him on board," Middleton continued.

"I'm really looking forward to joining up with Bristol," added Helu. "It's a club with a great history and big ambitions. I hope that I can contribute all that I can both on and off the field."

Helu has previously played club rugby for French side Grenoble, and most recently for Rugby Roma in Italy.
