Newport Gwent Dragons secure Toby Faletau and Lloyd Burns

Wales' rising number eight star Toby Faletau, 20, has signed a contract extension at Newport Gwent Dragons.

Another of Wales' World Cup squad, hooker Lloyd Burns, has joined Faletau in pledging a future to the club until the end of the 2013-14 season.

Faletau has established himself in the Wales back row alongside fellow Dragon Dan Lydiate and Sam Warburton.

Burns, 26, was a bricklayer and playing for Cross Keys a year before playing at the World Cup.

Tongan-born Faletau said: "The World Cup was a great experience but I'm really looking forward to getting back to Rodney Parade.

"I just love to play rugby and I enjoy being at the Dragons."

Burns said: "It was a pretty simple decision for me. The Dragons are my region and I want to stay with my local team.

"The Dragons have been really good to me and it's where I want to be.

"I'll be back in training next week and am really looking forward to getting back in with the boys and taking on the next challenge."

Faletau made his Dragons debut as an 18-year-old and, at the end of the 2010-11 season, was named Young Player of the Year in what is now the Pro12 League, as well as by the Welsh Rugby Writers Association and Welsh Rugby Players Association.

He overtook former Wales captain Ryan Jones and Andy Powell in national coach Warren Gatland's pecking order after making his debut in the 31-28 defeat by the Barbarians at the Millennium Stadium in June, 2011.

Burns made his Wales debut in their opening World Cup warm-up defeat by England at Twickenham on 6 August.

When 2010-11 skipper Matthew Rees was ruled out of the tournament by injury, Burns was elevated to the back-up role to Osprey Huw Bennett.
