Edinburgh's Sean Cox given one-week suspension after citing

Cox will miss the visit by Racing Metro to Murrayfield on Friday

Edinburgh forward Sean Cox has been banned for a week after he admitted striking London Irish and England centre Shontayne Hape.

Cox was cited following the second-half incident during his side's 20-19 victory on Sunday and misses Friday's visit by Paris side Racing Metro 92.

Englishman Cox struck Hape following a running battle with the New Zealand-born England international.

But it was decided Cox's offence was low-end of its seriousness level.

A two-week entry point was then reduced by 50% after taking into account Cox's guilty plea, clean record and demonstration of remorse.

Cox, who is replaced on the bench with Steven Turnbull against Racing, is not free to play again until 24 November.

Hape was also cited for a dangerous tackle on Edinburgh back row David Denton during the first half of the Heineken Cup encounter.

The New Zealand-born England centre received a four-week suspension.

Hape became the second London Irish player to be banned, with fellow England back Delon Armitage currently serving a five-week suspension.
