Wales centre Jonathan Davies has revealed he wants to extend his Scarlets contract which is up at the end of the 2011/12 season.

The 23-year-old is bound to attract interest outside of Wales after a memorable Rugby World Cup campaign.

But Davies has indicated he is happy to stay at Parc y Scarlets.

"It is a great place to be a part of and hopefully I will be able to stay," Davies told the South Wales Evening Post.

"There is a huge amount of ability in the squad."

If Davies did remain in Wales it would buck the trend of Wales players being attracted by lucrative contracts abroad.

Last season James Hook (Perpignan), Mike Phillips (Bayonne) and Lee Byrne (Clermont Auvergne) were all attracted across the English Channel.

And the fear was that many more international players would leave Wales, especially after all four regions agreed to introduce a salary cap in December to come into force at the start of the 2012/2013 season.

Among those liable to leave Wales are props Gethin Jenkins and Adam Jones.

But the Scarlets hanging on to Davies would buck the trend.

Scarlets head coach Nigel Davies is confident he can hang on to Davies, who is part of a talented young backline which also includes George North and Scott Williams.

"Jon has made it quite clear himself that he wants to stay at the Scarlets," said Davies.

"He is enjoying his rugby. He is enjoying the enviromnement and we are in negotiations with Jon."
