Fly-half Owen Farrell eyeing successful Saracens era

Saracens fly-half Owen Farrell hopes the side can become one of the dominant forces in English rugby.

The London side face Leicester Tigers at Welford Road in their Premiership play-off semi-final on Saturday.

The 20-year-old told BBC London 94.9: "To win the title [last year] was brilliant but to defend it would be a massive accolade for the club.

"You want to create legacy like teams like Leicester have already done. We want to be up there year after year."

This year's semi-final tie is a repeat of the eventual final each of the last two seasons.

Leicester ran out 33-27 winners in 2010 but Sarries gained revenge last year with a 22-18 vicotry to lift the trophy for the first time in their history.

"The semi-final was going to be tough regardless of who we got," Farrell continued. "The top four this year was very close.

"We're looking forward to going up to Welford Road even tough it's going to be a massive task.

"Hopefully we can implement our game plan."

Farrell, who was awarded with a new contract in February, was named as the discovery of the season at the Premiership Awards earlier this week.

The Lancashire-born player kicked 170 points in the league this season, won his first cap for England in February and was an integral part of their Six Nations campaign.

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall said: "When you see him operate on a day-to-day basis his age is kind of irrelevant.

"You forget how quickly he's achieved what he's achieved.

"He's incredibly level-headed and every challenge he seems to overcome without any difficulties."
