Glasgow Warriors have announced the signing of 19-year-old Canada wing Taylor Paris on a one-year contract.

Paris, a member of the Canada 7s squad, will move to Scotstoun after captaining his country's Under-20 side at this month's Junior World Rugby Trophy.

He said: "I'm delighted and honoured to have this chance.

"It's always been an ambition of mine to test myself in European professional rugby and I can't wait to join up with the Warriors ahead of the new season."

Paris, the youngest player - at the age of 18 - to win a full cap for the Cananadians, was a member of his country's 2011 Rugby World Cup squad.

He follows compatriots DTH van der Merwe, Kevin Tkachuk and Chauncey O'Toole in becoming a Warrior.

"The club is well known in Canada, with a number of our top players having been fortunate enough to represent the club, and I feel very privileged to be receiving the same opportunity," Paris told the Warriors' website.

The winger impressed on the Sevens circuit as a 17-year-old and has also played for Ontario Blues before becoming a mainstay of his country's set-up for the Sevens World Series for the past two seasons.

Paris missed out on the Canucks' summer Tests against United States, Georgia and Italy but has recovered to captain his country in Salt Lake City this month.

He becomes the Warriors' sixth signing for the forthcoming season, joining former New Zealand flanker Angus Macdonald, Tonga number eight Viliami Ma'afu, lock Tim Swinson, wing Sean Lamont and Scotland 7s centre Byron McGuigan.

Head coach Gregor Townsend said: "Taylor Paris has all the raw materials to become an influential player for Glasgow Warriors and I'm really pleased we've been able to secure his signature.

"All the coaches are really excited about his potential - the fact he's the youngest player ever to play international rugby for Canada at both 15s and 7s speaks volumes for his natural talent.

"We're looking forward to supporting and challenging him to ensure he develops into the quality performer it's obvious he has all the raw ingredients to become."
