James Voss has described his first start for Jersey against Newcastle in the Championship as "amazing".

The island-born forward, who , external played the full 80 minutes and was named man of the match in his side's 24-3 loss to the Championship leaders.

"It's amazing to play against Newcastle Falcons," Voss told BBC Radio Jersey.

"It's an absolute dream and to get man of the match makes it even more special."

The 18-year-old added: "I'm pleased with my own performance, but I'm pleased with the boys as well.

"Newcastle are such a hard side and we stuck on right through to the end.

"It shows how much of a team we are and what we can do if we put our minds to it."

Voss was one of a host of changes made by Jersey director of rugby Ben Harvey as he rested his more established players ahead of Friday's crucial game at relegation rivals Doncaster.

But Voss says the chance to play a full game has inspired him to train harder and try and cement his place in the side.

"It gives me such confidence to work that much harder in training on and off the pitch," said Voss.

"I can't wait to get back to training and keep improving."
