Welsh rugby regions to meet WRU board

The four Welsh regions are to meet the Welsh Rugby Union in an attempt to settle the dispute that has bedevilled the sport.

The regions had turned down an invitation to discuss a WRU proposal to centrally contract players.

The Ospreys, Scarlets, Dragons and Blues wanted to meet the full governing body to present their case.

Wales wing George North's transfer from the Scarlets to Northampton sparked the row between regions and union.

Since then the two parties have issued claim and counter-claim over "control" to back up their respective views of the future of the professional tier in Wales.

Former Wales captain Jonathan Davies has voiced his frustration with the dispute and fears it could have an impact on the game's future.

"I think everybody's basically fed up with the situation of the game and saddened," Davies Told BBC Wales' Scrum V programme.

"On the back of the great result in the Six Nations, now it's all about the politics again.

"Everyone wants Wales and Welsh rugby to pull together and to the betterment of the players, the regions, the Union and the national side.

"If they can't do that, the Union has got to look at why they can't work with the regions and vice versa.

"The more the people will get fed up, the less people will take interest in it and walk away from it and where does that leave the game then?"
