Wasps winger Christian Wade has been nominated for the Aviva Premiership Player of the Season award.

The 21-year-old has scored 11 Premiership tries this term.

England and Leicester hooker Tom Youngs and Harlequins' England international scrum-half Danny Care are also on the six-man shortlist.

The other three players in contention are Saracens lock Steve Borthwick, Gloucester back row Akapusi Qera and Leicester flanker Julian Salvi.

Salvi is the only player who was also included in the shortlist for the 2011-12 award, won by Harlequins and England captain Chris Robshaw.

Tom Wood and Chris Ashton picked up the accolade in previous years.

Rugby director at Premiership Rugby Phil Winstanley said: "We are delighted to see the awards continue to grow.

"We have enjoyed another breathtaking season on the pitch with so many matches going down to the wire," he added.

"The length of the deliberations for the awards reflects the current standard of Aviva Premiership Rugby - we had so many compelling candidates."

The shortlist was compiled by rugby media professionals with the winner to be announced on Thursday 9 May.
