Cornwall beat Gloucestershire in County Championship opener

Cornwall boss Dave Thomas says his side can still improve despite their County Championship win at Gloucestershire.

The Duchy came from behind to win 24-19 after tries from Sam Matavesi, Richard Brown and Sam Hocking.

"We'll be doing a lot of work on the line out," Thomas told BBC Cornwall.

"We never got it right at all and there were opportunities in the Gloucestershire 22 when if we'd have caught it cleanly we could have driven them over," he added.

The win means the Duchy go into their game with Kent at the weekend knowing a win could set-up a winner-takes-all tie with holders Hertfordshire the following week.

Herts beat Kent 50-26 and lead the Bill Beaumont Cup's southern division on points difference.

But Thomas was pleased with how his side came back from an early try to secure victory.

"I've never been with a Cornish team who've won in Gloucester, so I'm really up in the air about the win.

"Everyone who came on the field gave 110% and they played with fantastic pride and passion.

"They probably had 65-70% of the possession but our defence was awesome, by and large the defence won us the game."
