Wasps have signed Jersey's top try-scorer Guy Thompson for next season.

The 26 year-old number eight, who scored seven Championship tries this term, had committed to staying at the island side for the 2013-14 campaign.

But he will make the step up to the Premiership with Dai Young's outfit.

"Guy has made people sit up and take notice with his performances this season. He's an explosive runner who will scare defences with his pace and power." said Young.

"His ability to play across the back row will be very valuable and we are all looking forward to seeing what he can do at this level."

The Gloucester academy product joined Jersey from Richmond in 2011 and helped them to promotion to the Championship in his first season.

"Jersey have been fantastic for me over the past two years and I want to say a massive thank you to them for helping my game and for backing me," he said.

"I am really excited about Wasps and working with some fantastic players and coaches.

"It's a squad with some incredibly talented young players and it's great to see that the coaches are not afraid to give guys without huge experience a chance to show what they can do. I can't wait to get started."

Wasps have also handed a new contract to back row Ashley Johnson.

The 26-year-old made 25 appearances in his debut season at Adams Park.
