Scotland flanker John Barclay is to miss the national side's tour to South Africa next month through injury.

The 26-year-old, who is joining Welsh club Scarlets from Glasgow Warriors this summer, will undergo surgery on a shoulder problem later this week.

Scottish Rugby says it has no plans "at this juncture" to replace Barclay in the 30-man squad.

The national side's tour encompasses a tournament involving South Africa, Samoa and Italy.

Meanwhile, Scotland have announced that their opening 2013 autumn Test against Japan will be played at Murrayfield.

The match, on Saturday 9 November, will have a 14:30 GMT kick-off and will be the fourth meeting of the sides in a full international.

Scotland have also met Japan in five non-cap matches, most recently in 2010, when a Scotland XV won 24-5 at Murrayfield.

The other November fixtures will also be at Murrayfield, where they will host South Africa on Sunday 17 November and Australia the following Saturday.
