Chief executive Mark Dodson says Scottish Rugby needs to rejuvenate Edinburgh as the search for the capital side's new coach continues.

Michael Bradley vacated the role in March and Stevie Scott and Duncan Hodge oversaw the final weeks of last season.

"We're looking for the very best candidate, we're not just looking for someone who's simply available and that takes some time," explained Dodson.

"What we've got to do is rebuild Edinburgh."

Glasgow reached the play-offs for a second successive season

Edinburgh's season - finishing third-bottom of the Pro12 - contrasted with that of Glasgow Warriors, who claimed third place and progressed to the play-offs only to lose at the semi-final stage.

"We're thrilled with Glasgow," said Dodson. "In terms of the progress Glasgow have made this year, it's been great for everybody.

"The move from Firhill to Scotstoun has been really pleasing and people have had a fantastic matchday event and, at the end of the day, they're all going home happy because Glasgow are winning in some style."

Another coaching appointment Dodson has been involved in is the selection of Vern Cotter as the new Scotland head coach.

However, the New Zealander, who is under contract at Clermont Auvergne for the coming season, with will not take over from interim head coach Scott Johnson until next year.

"We've always planned for Vern to join us in June 2014," added Dodson.

"I don't think we're taking a risk at all. If you look at the coaches that Scott Johnson is leading at the moment, we've got some outstanding coaches who are all experts in their own field. This is a high quality coaching group and I've no worries, I don't consider it a risk at all.

"We've got 24 games left until the World Cup and we've got to experiment with our side, we've got to bring new players through and by the time Vern arrives, we'll have a richer and deeper squad that he can do more with."
