Bristol hooker Ross Johnston has been banned for five weeks for a tip tackle in a pre-season friendly at Clifton.

The 27-year-old was red carded for a tackle on lock Joe Quinn and will be free to play again on 19 October.

He is also required to pay £250 costs towards the Rugby Football Union disciplinarily hearing.

The Championship club, who start their campaign at Cornish Pirates on 15 September, say they are "considering their position at this time".
