London Wasps have signed Saracens wing James Short on loan for the rest of the season to help ease injury problems among their backs.

The 24-year-old has been playing for Championship side Bedford Blues this season on dual-registration terms.

"We've been very unlucky with injuries to key players in our backline," Wasps director of rugby Dai Young said.

"Adding James to our wing options means a few of our versatile backs could provide backup in others areas."

He added: "James is a very experienced Premiership player so we're very pleased to bring him in for the rest of the season."

Wasps currently have several backs out injured, including England wing Christian Wade, centre Ben Jacobs, Italy centre Andrea Masi and full-back Hugo Southwell.

Short has scored 11 tries in 51 Premiership appearances for Saracens since making his debut in November 2010.

"James is an extremely talented winger with a bright future in the game, but it is important that he keeps getting game time at the highest level," Sarries boss Mark McCall said.

"This arrangement with Wasps is a win-win."
