Danny Cipriani: Steve Diamond talks up England recall

Sale Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond says an England recall for fly-half Danny Cipriani is a "no-brainer".

Cipriani has been instrumental in Sale's impressive season so far, and is in contention for a place on England's summer tour of New Zealand.

The 26-year-old won the last of his seven caps for England back in 2008.

"It's a no-brainer. His head is in the right place and I think he's a better player now than he's ever been," Diamond told BBC Radio 5 live.

"He's got his life in order. There's no reason why he can't play the game at the highest level."

Saracens' Owen Farrell and George Ford of Bath will be part of the touring squad injury permitting.

That leaves Cipriani in contention with Northampton's Stephen Myler if England coach Stuart Lancaster opts to take three fly-halves down under.

Diamond thinks Cipriani brings different qualities to the other fly-half contenders and insists there is "no secret" to managing the former London Wasps player.

"Danny offers something different to all of those people," added Diamond.

"I think it would be advantageous for them to take him to New Zealand and see what he is like in their environment.

"If they can manage him like we do - there's no secret recipe - then I think he will flourish in that environment."

After a period plagued by injury, inconsistent form and off-the-field distractions, Cipriani believes he is at the top of his game and hopes he has caught Lancaster's eye.

"In terms of my all-round rugby game, I do believe I'm probably playing the best I have been," Cipriani added.

"I started the season well but Stuart wanted to see it consistently happen throughout the whole season. I'd like to think I've continued to do that."
