Cornish Pirates have signed England Counties Under 20s fly-half Bertie Hopkin on a one-year contract

The 20-year-old has played in three pre-season games for the Pirates.

Harlequins and England Saxons hooker Dave Ward, who has been coaching Hopkins former club Guildford, recommended him to the Pirates.

"His skill set's's pretty good and Jamal Ford-Robinson had played with him so we knew about his character," said Pirates director of rugby Ian Davies.

"Bertie has accepted the opportunity we have offered and I have no doubt will endeavour to keep working hard to achieve a starting shirt with us this season."
