Bell has scored three tries for Jersey so far this season

Jersey full-back Tommy Bell has joined Premiership side Leicester Tigers.

The 21-year-old moved to Jersey from Wasps in June, but had a clause in his contract to allow him to leave if a top-flight side made an approach.

Bell was nominated for September's Championship player of the month award and scored three tries and kicked 47 points for Jersey in five games.

"We are very sorry to lose Tommy. He has been one of our stand-out players," said Jersey chairman Bill Dempsey.

"I think we knew that he would probably end up returning to the Premiership, although we'd hoped this wouldn't have been until the end of this season.

"Having said that, Tommy's form has shown he is definitely capable of playing at the top level of the domestic game and we have no wish to stand in the way of his ambitions.

"We'd like to thank him for the contribution he's made since coming to Jersey in June and wish him all the best for the future," Dempsey told the Jersey website., external

Leicester are third-from-bottom after suffering a host of injuries to key players.

They are without three full-backs - Mathew Tait, Scott Hamilton and Niall Morris - as well as England centre Manu Tuilagi and a host of international forwards, while they suffered their biggest-ever Premiership defeat last month when they lost 45-0 at Bath.
