Cipriani has contributed 46 points in the first five Premiership games this season

Sale Sharks fly-half Danny Cipriani says he is enjoying leading the free-scoring backline at the club.

Despite winning only two games so far this season, the Sharks have scored 18 tries in their five matches, just one behind top scorers Bath.

"We're scoring a lot more tries this year going forward and that's really helping us in our attack," he said.

"We're really working on getting back into the swing of things, back to what Sale are good at," added Cipriani, 26.

The Sharks beat Wasps 25-14 in their last match, scoring another three tries with winger Tom Arscott now the Premiership's top marksman with five for the season.

"It was Sale of old in defence, but hopefully it was more Sale of the new in the way we're attacking and willing to take the space when it's on," said Cipriani.

"That's credit to the boys for stepping up and making the calls and what we've practised in pre-season is coming to fruition on the field.

"I'm really happy with the way I'm going and how the team is going forward."

Cipriani appeared in two of England's three Tests against New Zealand in June

The former Wasps and Melbourne Rebels fly-half made his way back into the England squad in the summer on the tour to New Zealand, after helping Sale to a sixth-place finish last term.

Cipriani, who has said he would be happy to extend his contract at the club, said the players who made the trip will be anxiously awaiting news of England's squad announcement on 22 October.

"Everyone has thought about that. It's given the players more of a chance to try to play their way into the squad," said Cipriani.

"But you've seen how competitive the league is this year: every single game is huge."
