Luther Burrell: X-ray on hand injury likely for England centre

Northampton's England centre Luther Burrell is likely to be sent for an X-ray after injuring his right hand.

The 26-year-old, who has seven England caps, was injured in Saturday's Champions Cup win over Ospreys.

Despite having his hand strapped up, he had to be replaced in the second half.

Saints boss Jim Mallinder said a blow left Burrell "struggling to grip".

England face New Zealand in their first autumn Test on 8 November.

Stuart Lancaster's side then go on to play South Africa, Samoa and Australia on consecutive Saturdays.

England are expected to be without star centre Manu Tuilagi for all four matches and Burrell is a contender to fill the 13 shirt in his absence.

"Fingers crossed there's no permanent damage and no broken bones," added Mallinder.

"He gave it a chance in the second half but just couldn't quite get that grip going. We're going to have to see how that is. He'll probably have to go for an X-ray.
