Clermont Auvergne centre Jonathan Davies has won 41 caps for Wales

Wales coach Warren Gatland says centre Jonathan Davies is unlikely to face New Zealand on 22 November after injury ruled him out of taking on Fiji.

Davies, 26, did not recover from a shoulder injury for Wales' defeat by Australia last weekend.

And the Clermont Auvergne star remains a concern.

Gatland said: "It's going to be tough throwing him in against the All Blacks, having not played or been involved for a while."

There are eight changes in the match-day squad, with Davies' former Scarlets team-mate Scott Williams back from a hamstring strain to partner Racing Metro's Jamie Roberts in midfield against Fiji.

British and Irish Lion Davies was injured in Clermont Auvergne's 35-3 European Champions Cup victory over Sale on 26 October.

The former Scarlet felt he was not far off being declared fit for selection against the Wallabies.

Davies missed three of the 2013 autumn Tests and the opening three matches of the 2014 Six Nations with a chest injury.

He told BBC Wales Sport that he has an agreement with the French club to play in all of Wales' autumn matches, including the clash against South Africa on 29 November, which falls outside the international window.

Davies had been worried he may be ruled out of all four of Wales' Tests this month after leaving the field against Sale.

"The way I landed was quite awkward," said Davies before the Wallabies match, "and you do fear the worst, travelling on your own back to Wales from France.

"You've got a little man on your shoulder telling you a lot of things, but I think the [scan] results were probably the best possible we could have hoped for.

"It wasn't too bad and I'm in great hands. I've been well looked after and have been put in a position where hopefully, if selected, I can be a part of this series."
