Plymouth Albion's eight-month wait for a competitive win continues after a battling Jersey side secured a 19-0 victory at St Peter.

In wet and windy conditions, the islanders were 6-0 ahead at the break, thanks to two Jonny Bentley penalties.

Jersey centre Drew Locke and hooker Martin Garcia-Veiga had chances before Ryan Hodson scored the only try of the game from a driving maul.

Aaron Penberthy sealed the victory for the hosts with two late penalties.

Plymouth's dual-registered winger Jack Arnott was stretchered off and taken by ambulance to Jersey's General Hospital for checks, but was expected to leave the island with the rest of the squad on Saturday evening.

Albion's search for a win continues

Plymouth have now lost 16 consecutive competitive matches since their 33-18 win at Bedford on 8 March.

Jersey went close early in the second period when Locke chased a through kick, but the former Exeter Chiefs back could not gather the ball cleanly as he slid into the posts.

Argentine international Garcia-Veiga almost sneaked in for a try after a well-worked line-out, but he just failed to cling onto the ball in the left corner.

Albion replacement Lawrence Rayner missed a relatively straight-forward penalty chance before the only try of the match eventually came when flanker Hodson grounded the ball at the bottom of a pile of bodies from a powerful driving maul.

Albion's record now reads 16 consecutive competitive defeats and they remain rooted to the foot of the Championship.

Meanwhile, Jersey climbed into the top half of the table ahead of testing back-to-back away fixtures at London Scottish and Worcester.
