Exeter Chiefs wing Tom James set for Cardiff Blues return

Tom James has made 28 appearances for Exeter since joining them for the start of the 2013-14 season

Wing Tom James will return to Cardiff Blues from Exeter Chiefs next season after agreeing a two-year deal.

The 27-year-old joined the Welsh region in 2006 but after seven years opted for a move to the English Premiership.

James, who won 10 Wales caps while at the Blues, has made 28 appearances for Exeter, scoring five tries.

"I have a huge affinity for the region and the supporters. At this stage of my career it's a good move for me and I'm excited to come back," James said.

"I met with [Blues director of rugby] Mark Hammett and was really impressed by what he said and what he wants to achieve. He didn't need to sell the region to me, I know how great the place is, but it's good to know what the plans are and the direction.

"There are some quality players in the squad and I watched the derby with Scarlets [a 21-9 win for Blues] and you can see the potential to really push on.

"I have a lot of good friends at Blues. The fans always backed me from day one and so the reaction to me coming back from them has been amazing. I'm looking forward to representing them once more."

James remains the leading try scorer in Blues history with 39 tries in 115 games for the region, while he was top try scorer in the Celtic League in the 2007-08 season.

"I've enjoyed my time at the Chiefs, making not only a lot of good friends, but a lot of memories as well," he added.

"I can't speak highly enough of the club and how they have helped to improve me as a player. I feel I am a more mature person and player for this experience."
