Cardiff Blues back-rowers Josh Navidi and Josh Turnbull have played themselves into contention for Wales' Six Nations squad, according to the region's backs coach Paul John.

Navidi, 24, has caught the eye at open-side and number eight this season, while Turnbull, 26, has impressed at blind-side and lock.

"They're definitely putting their hands up and getting noticed," said John.

Coach Warren Gatland names Wales' Six Nations squad on Tuesday, 20 January.

John added: "To be fair to those boys, I do not think they can do any more."

It has been a difficult season for the Blues, who are ninth in the Pro12 table, but the performances of Navidi and Turnbull have been rare highlights.

Navidi, who came through the Blues' youth ranks, has one Wales cap while Turnbull has seven.

John thinks both players could add to their tallies in the coming months.

"They have been playing really well and been outstanding for us every game," he added.

"They're doing everything possibly really."
