Kingsley Jones was delighted after Newport Gwent Dragon sealed top spot in Pool Three of the European Challenge Cup with a 40-29 win at Newcastle.

But the head coach says the Welsh region must finish the job by beating Stade Francais next week to ensure home advantage in the quarter-finals.

"We've got to put in a good performance next week," Jones said.

"It's a massive game, a massive team and the home crowd deserve a performance... at Rodney Parade."

Dragons have already beaten Stade this season, shocking the French giants in round one with a 38-22 win at Stade Jean Bouin.

While the Welsh side stands proudly at the top of Pool Three with an unassailable 21 points, Newcastle on 16 points and Stade on 15 still have hope of claiming one of the two best runners-up spots to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Jones expects Stade to go all out for a result that could see them sneak past English Premiership side Newcastle in next week's final round.

"Let's not kid ourselves, they've played poorly in a few of the games but they still win and they're top of the French league with Toulon at the moment," Jones said.

"So they'll be coming there looking for the right result and they've got a five-pointer today [against Bucharest Wolves].

"They've got every chance of going through so they'll come there and give it a go.

"They've still got quality players although we won't expect their Top 14 squad as such, there's still half-a-dozen of that group play regularly in this tournament.

"It'll be a big challenge... it's Stade Francais and the budget is probably five times that of the Dragons, so it's a challenge but one we're looking forward to.

"Ultimately we've got something to really play for, it's exciting to the players to win something, for the club.

"If we can get semi-finals, quarter-finals, that becomes a habit and that's what we need to get at the Dragons."

Dragons romped into a 35-3 lead at Kingston Park, sealing a try bonus point against Newcastle with scores from Tyler Morgan, Andrew Coombs, Hallam Amos, Rynard Landman and a penalty try.

Falcons hit back after the break with four tries of their own, but a second try from wing Amos ensured Dragons kept daylight between themselves and the English side.

"We've given Newcastle one point but we've stopped them getting another in catching up with us and also we've scored five points... ultimately it's a very good day at the office," Jones added.

"We had a good balance to the game today, I thought the driving maul and also the tries from the backs... some really good performances."
