Edinburgh qualified for the quarter-final of the European Challenge Cup as Pool 4 winners after a convincing win over Bordeaux.

Man of the match Sam Hidalgo-Clyne amassed 28 of Edinburgh's 38 points in a game where the hosts never trailed.

The recent Scotland call-up scored with two tries, three conversions and four penalties for Alan Solomons' men.

Matt Scott and South African WP Nel also crossed over as Edinburgh's good recent form continued.

They join Exeter Chiefs, Gloucester and Newport-Gwent Dragons in the last eight of the competition before the weekend's final round of pool matches.

Hidalgo Clyne's total eclipsed the 24 points Duncan Hodge scored for Edinburgh against Biarritz in the 1997-98 season.

The Murrayfield side led 14-6 at the interval, with all their points coming from the 21-year-old, while Lionel Beauxis replied with two penalties for Bordeaux.

Another Hidalgo-Clyne penalty and Scott's converted try extended the hosts' lead before Baptiste Serin latched on to a neat chip in the in-goal area and Pierre Bernard converted for the visitors.

Prop Nel then crashed over from close range before Hidalgo-Clyne's second try gave Edinburgh a bonus point and put them in cruise control.

John Andress and Jefferson Poirot picked up yellow cards 10 minutes from time after a collapsed scrum and Bordeaux had the final word on the night with Bernard's converted try.
