Cornish Pirates boss Ian Davies says his side 'fully deserved' to beat Bristol and end their 19-game winning run since the start of the season.

They ran in five tries in a 45-38 win, allowing Worcester to depose Bristol from the top of the Championship table.

"All week we trained really hard and we took the game to them.

"We had belief, we gave a few soft tries away, but we kept going and we fully deserved the result," Davies told BBC Radio Cornwall.

The defeat was Bristol's sixth in succession at the Mennaye, and seventh against the Pirates away from home, as they were also beaten in the opening round of last season's Championship at Exeter's Sandy Park ground.

The Pirates led 22-21 at half-time after tries from Rob Elloway, Joe Atkinson and Craig Holland, with Bristol replying through a penalty try and scores from Jack Tovey and David Lemi.

5 December 2010 - Lost 16-6

The home side were quickly out of the traps following the re-start as tries from Holland and Elloway extended the lead to 36-21 ahead.

Bristol hit back strongly through Mitch Eadie, a second pelnty try and Tovey's second, but Kieran Hallett kicked three penalties to secure a famous win for the Pirates.

"You're playing the best in the league, the squad they have and the coaching staff they have mean they're a Premiership outfit," Davies said.

"We knew there was a little bit of fear factor that if we didn't play well we could be on a right hiding, but fair play to them, to a man, for 85 minutes, they kept going.

"Hopefully our supporters will start to believe in this group of players, we've just scored almost 50 pointed against a team who are running away with the league."
