Wales lock Alun Wyn Jones says a revitalised Scotland will provide a stern test in Sunday's Six Nations encounter at Murrayfield.

Both sides lost their opening games of the Championship, Wales lost 21-16 against England in Cardiff while Scotland fell 15-8 to France.

Jones believes Scotland's performance in Paris deserves respect.

"They probably had the performance of the weekend, they were close to... the win," Jones said.

"You look at the way they've progressed under [head coach] Vern Cotter, it's a testament to the players and the coaching staff they've got.

"You could see from their game at the weekend they have a pretty big will to play.

"They get into the 22 they spread the field, and they're looking to spread the ball and get it into the back three's hands.

"Whereas England, particularly in the second half, were more set-piece orientated, drive, kick and starve us of possession and essentially stop us from playing.

"The more you play the more chance there is for error but the harder it can be to defend. It's the puzzle we'll have to find out at the weekend."

Ospreys captain Jones, who has 85 Wales caps and three for the British and Irish Lions, is particularly aware of the personal battle he will face in Edinburgh against the in-form Gray brothers.

"Richie Gray and in particular Jonny Gray - who has been a stand-out performer in the Pro12 this year - has continued the rise along with his brother in the Scotland set-up," Jones said.

"So they have the bit between their teeth and a point to prove and a big point to prove, particularly after the game going so well against France."
