George North: Wales wing likely to miss Saints match against Bath

George North has made 46 appearances for Wales.

Wales wing George North is unlikely to play for Northampton in their Aviva Premiership match at Bath on Saturday.

North, 22, was rested for Wales's 26-23 win over Scotland after taking two blows to the head in the Six Nations defeat against England.

Saints forward coach Dorian West said the player has remained with the international squad.

"It's still up in the air where he is with fitness so it'll be unlikely that he's involved with us," he said.

"He obviously had a couple of bangs on his head and Wales need to make sure that they are doing the right thing with him for his long term health, so it's in their hand to make sure he gets back to full fitness."

Leaders Northampton face second-placed Bath at the Recreation Ground on Saturday at 15:15 GMT.

The sport's governing body, World Rugby, investigated the incidents involving North in the match against England, but accepted the Welsh Rugby Union's explanation that their medical staff had not seen the second incident.

For its part the WRU said North would not have been allowed to carry on had the second incident been spotted.

Wales coach Warren Gatland said North was "not happy" after being rested for the match against Scotland.

North is likely to be available for Wales' next Six Nations match against France in Paris on Saturday, 28 February, with West adding: "We'll see what their [Wales] selection brings next week. Hopefully he'll be playing for Wales, but we'll see."

While North has stayed with the Wales camp, five France-based players have all returned to their clubs.

Jamie Roberts, Mike Phillips and Luke Charteris (all Racing Metro), Jonathan Davies (Clermont Auvergne) and Leigh Halfpenny (Toulon) are all likely to be in Top 14 action.

The match between Racing and Clermont could see centre Roberts and Davies lining up against each other.
