Adam Jones: Cardiff Blues in new deal talks with veteran prop

Jones made his Wales debut in 2003 and won Grand Slams in 2005, 2008 and 2012

Cardiff Blues are in talks with former Wales prop Adam Jones about a new contract, according to caretaker coach Paul John.

Jones, 34, is out of contract at the end of the season having joined the region on a one-year deal last summer.

"Those talks are going on at the moment," said John.

Blues hope the tight-head stays, but face reported competition from Premiership side Harlequins and French second-tier club Pau.

Reports have also linked Exeter's new Wales squad tight-head prop Tomas Francis with a move to the Arms Park.

Jones has made 100 Test appearances, made up of 95 for Wales and five for the British and Irish Lions.

He retired from Wales duty after being omitted from their 2015 Six Nations squad.

The ex-Neath player became an Osprey when they were formed for the launch of regional rugby in 2003 and stayed with the Swansea-based region until signing for the Blues in August.

Jones is expected to be involved in Blues' Pro12 match in Ulster on Friday, as will most of their returning Wales Six Nations players.

But Wales captain Sam Warburton has a week off so the flanker will not play.

Blues will also be without prop Gethin Jenkins, who has not yet recovered from a hamstring strain that forced him to miss Wales' 61-20 win over Italy on Saturday.John also revealed he is in talks over his future with Blues.
