Exeter Chiefs have signed Australian lock Ollie Atkins from Edinburgh to replace departing captain Dean Mumm.

The 26-year-old joined Edinburgh after leaving Super 15 side New South Wales Waratahs in 2013.

Exeter head coach Rob Baxter told BBC Radio Devon: "We've had a very, very good look at Ollie and he came highly recommended by Dean himself.

"He's a real 80-minute player, he enjoys working hard, and we feel we have recruited a very good player."

Mumm has announced he is returning to Australia play for the Waratahs in the hope of winning a place in his country's World Cup squad.

Baxter added: "We may also look for an additional back-rower to complement the squad we have."
