Newcastle Falcons have signed Tonga captain Nili Latu for the 2015-16 Premiership season, although the terms are undisclosed.

Latu, 33, joins Falcons having played at the highest level in the southern hemisphere with Chiefs and Hurricanes in the Super 15 competition.

The back-rower has scored four tries in 42 international appearances.

"We're thrilled to be able to add an experienced and talented player," director of rugby Dean Richards said.

"Nili has a great deal of experience of playing at the very top level and is a world-class player with a great deal of rugby ahead of him.

"As the Tongan captain he also brings proven leadership experience on the international stage."

Falcons already have Latu's international team-mates Sonatane Takulua and Uli Kolo'ofai and will also sign Taione Vea for 2015-16.
